The Green Hornet 2011 Review

With the name of Michel Gondry is accustomed to directing movies tasteful like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) and Be Kind Rewind (2008) sitting in the director's chair as well as collaboration Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg who has produced comedy scripts quality such as Superbad (2007) and Funny People (2009) division is responsible for writing the script, it seems natural that The Green Hornet will give a great hope for this radio adaptation of the series to be a superhero-themed movies are different, funny and with a quality that is above-themed films to each other. Unfortunately, this film actually made a mistake which was to be a step that makes this movie look completely unappealing: put Seth Rogen as the lead character's own superhero.

Not that Rogen is not able to perform acting funny or have sufficient capacity to be a major character, but to act as a superhero, needed an actor who has a charisma that is so strong that every attendance is able to attract the attention of so many people. One thing that until now have not owned by Rogen. It is still worse with the chemistry that feels so flat between himself and actor Jay Chou - that should be his right hand, and lack of excavation inside the other supporting characters that make The Green Hornet runs without any significant surprises.

Story of Britt Reid (Rogen), a 28-year-old boy who has a hobby for fun, and just get a big responsibility after the death of her father, James Reid (Tom Wilkinson): manage the daily The Daily Sentinel, which is one daily The biggest and most critical editorial in the United States. This certainly is a big problem for Britt who have absolutely no interest to venture into journalism. Britt later met with Kato (Chou), a former engineer father, who turned out to have extraordinary ability in handling various types of machinery. Looking at the ability of Kato, Britt then invited to work together to combat crime in the city, but with costumes criminals so that they can enter the world of crime more deeply and use the name The Green Hornet in their action.

After some sporadic action, which caused their names became known and a wide coverage in various mass media, Benjamin Chudnofsky (Christoph Waltz), a Russian mafia which has been the most feared person in the criminal world of Los Angeles, began to feel disturbed by the presence of the Green Hornet. Chudnofsky and the flock began to make plans so that they can wipe out someone who he thought wanted to take over his position. Although initially the Chudnofsky successfully cornered by The Green Hornet, but in a meeting that was a trap, now Britt and Kato are in a difficult position. Now, depending on their cooperation to be able to go back to corner and beat him soundly Chudnofsky.

Since The Green Hornet was adapted into a television serial form in 1966-1967 - which will earn the popularity and success meroketkan name Bruce Lee's role as Kato in that time to a high level of popularity, Hollywood has long tried to adapt the story to the screen the width. Since 1992, names like George Clooney, Greg Kinnear, Mark Wahlberg and Jake Gyllenhaal had several times linked to take over the lead role as Britt Reid / The Green Hornet. The Green Hornet himself is a character a little fragile because of the death of his father that he never liked, but able to cover it with a big ego that often traps them in a variety of problems. Need an actor who can look ornery and uncontrollably when the character uses his ego in each of his actions. Rogen, unfortunately, even trapped in a comical character who have often she carries in every movie and makes the character of The Green Hornet impressed even sillier than ornery. Rogen did not have the behavior as a superhero who is required to fill in The Green Hornet, which ultimately makes the character is annoying and lost prestige of the "side-kick" her, Kato.

Although Jay Chou is not Bruce Lee, and often the difficulty in pronouncing the English language was a bit frustrating in some parts, Chou quite able to turn the character Kato. With an amazing martial arts skills and a more colorful characterization, it is not wrong if the audience actually prefer this character more than the characters told Britt Reid / The Green Hornet. Unfortunately, Chou and Rogen had failed to form a chemistry that can assure that they are a perfect match for each other.

Besides Rogen and Chou, actor Christoph Waltz and actress Cameron Diaz get a part to play as prominent supporting characters in this story. Once again serve as an antagonist character, Waltz unfortunately not able to look sharp in appearance. Waltz's not entirely wrong, the character of Benjamin Chudnofsky written for her character often feels like a patch because it takes one character to be antagonistic opponent The Green Hornet and Kato. Script writers, Rogen and Goldberg, failed to provide a deeper characterization of Chudnofsky character, just as happened with the character played by Diaz Lenore Case, and this time it actually appears to be merely presented as a sweetener due to the majority of players who comprised the cast of men. Together with several other characters who filled by Tom Wilkinson, David Harbour and Edward James Olmos, Lenore and Chudnofsky characters can actually be dug deeper and sharper display.

Script written by Rogen and Goldberg itself contains quite a lot of action scenes that can meet any ekspekstasi those who really want the presence of a row due to the cultivation of these scenes and special effects from director Michel Gondry reliable. However, with a duration of 119 minutes, The Green Hornet is filled too much conflict between the character of Britt Reid and Kato are some times feels too drawl and not at all essential. Some additional plot is presented - like the story of the discovery of the narcotics processing and triangle love story between Britt-Lenore-Kato - are also often presented briefly and without explanation, making deep plots seem to hang the story. These elements that makes The Green Hornet has never managed to reach the tipping point where this film can give satisfaction to the audience.

Not entirely disappointing, but filled with many moments where the audience will expect something more but did not ever get it, The Green Hornet failed to provide anything that can sting and draw attention as a 'beginning of a promising franchise.' Though not entirely his fault , lack of charisma Rogen plays a superhero to make a major contribution why this movie seem to walk so flat and less interesting. This is compounded by a lack of chemistry which he produces with Jay Chou and the other actors who, though occasionally successfully covered with a fairly interesting action scenes, but still failed to deliver more value to The Green Hornet.
